Established in 1990, De Steyl creates furniture and interior joinery of exceptional quality. We are a company of furniture designers and makers who love and understand wood, design and architecture. Our work is inspired by the people we work with and reflects our belief in simplicity, honesty and proportion in furniture design. We pride ourselves on our craftsmanship, superior finishing and a commitment to excellent service. We have made bespoke furniture for the most prestigious homes and hotels along the Garden Route of South Africa as well as Mauritius and other overseas commissions. We collaborate with architects and interior designers and offer a design & project management service. De Steyl is led by architect Deánne Viljoen who has managed to instil in young De Steyl makers an appreciation of design and a culture of quality and innovation aimed to assist design professionals, developers and discerning individuals alike. Be it a large hotel contract or a small bespoke piece, great care is taken to delight the customer from initial consultation through to final installation. We are a small team of highly qualified and experienced specialists who relishes a challenge and are committed to creating only the best that people inspire in us. Owner & Furniture Designer Deánne has a B.Arch degree and joined De Steyl in She consults with clients, designs and manages each project. Wood Machinist Cornelius is an experienced machinist on all our traditional woodworking machines as well as the moulder. Cabinetmaking Foreman Deon is the longest standing member of our team, since its start in Wood Finishing Foreman Adam has shown a true talent for woodworking & finishing. He is an excellent spray painter & leads a team of specialists. Bookkeeper Wilna has been De Steyl’s bookkeeper for more than 20 years. Cabinetmaker Ronwen is a very talented young craftsman who did his apprenticeship under Wikus Swart. Wood finisher & Installer Stefhen is our most multi-skilled team member and our favourite person to work with! Sander & Scraper Mathilda is one of our original sanders and scrapers who hand finishes our woodwork.
