Overview Garden Route, George has evolved as the centre of the Eden District. At just over 400km from Cape Town, the area offers a wide range of restaurants, conference facilities and tourist attractions. According to the 2011 census, the population of George had increased by 43% over 10 years, which is in excess of three per cent annually. The rate of growth is well above the national average and is a clear indication of the attraction of the area to both citizens and businesses. Our first strategic objective is to deliver affordable quality services in a sustainable manner to all the Citizens of George. Our second strategic objective is to develop and grow George with innovative and entrepreneurial solutions for all of the Citizens of George. Our third strategic objective is to keep George clean, safe and green for all of the Citizens of George. Our fourth strategic objective is to ensure good governance and integrity in George for all of the Citizens of George. Our fifth strategic objective is to facilitate Participative Partnerships in George for all of the Citizens of George. The Eden District Municipality is responsible for providing this service to the entire region. Vision: To serve the public with respect, courtesy, dignity, pride and to manage the Thusong Centre as a self-sustainable community centre. To provide Government services and information to the public To provide rental office spaces to Government Departments, Educational Institutions, NGO’s. The Thusong Programme is the scheduling and rolling out of community based programmes and projects to the various communities around George Municipality, in partnership and with full participation of Municipal Officials, Government Departments, NGO’s and Private Sector, to serve the communities. This programme started in 1999 around the country as one of the primary vehicles for the implementation of government service delivery programmes, rendering information services to local communities especially to the rural communities. The Jamborees (Thusong Outreach Mobiles) is also aimed at increasing Government services and visibility in rural areas. The Centre will try to identify and prioritize needs and wants especially of people living with disabilities (disabled people) and the elderly. The Thusong Centre will try to come up with practical constructive and empowering solutions in addressing the challenges faced by people living with disabilities. The purpose is to identify, recognize, encouraging, promote and preserve the continuation of the living heritage and practices of the African Traditional Indigenous heritage among our diverse communities. THUSONG CENTRE STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENTS Thusong Centre Stakeholder engagement is the co-operation between government and Parastatals and agencies and communities; co-operation between organized formations of civil society, small, medium and larger businesses and government, to mention but a few, they epitomize the spirit and example that by working together we are able to take South Africa forward.
