What you should know about OUTENIQUA PRIMARY SCHOOL

Ample opportunity to as many learners as possible is what we aim for. Learners are coached daily in sprints, hurdles, long distance, long jump, high jump and shot put. Several athletes go further to compete against other schools and provinces. Swimming is a life skill and at Outeniqua Primary we put a lot of emphasis on improving this important skill. We are fortunate to have our own swimming pool and therefore we can cater for the needs of all our learners: from our top swimmers, through the developing team and lastly but not the least, the beginners. We practice twice a week at the George Sports Club. Our players are given the chance to represent their province at Interprovincial Tournaments and some have even achieved SA colouers in the sport. The team players occassionally participate against the 2 other primary schools in the area that offer squash as an extra-mural or against high schools. The benefit of external exams is that learners are assessed by an examiner from an independent unbiased board, which gives the learner and his/her parents an accurate indication of his/her progress and skill level. ABRSM (The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music), Trinity College London and Rockschool are UK based examination boards whose awarded qualifications are accredited and accepted internationally, opening doors for further study in the Music field abroad. During the Outeniqua Choir Festival and other Eisteddfods our choir usually achieves excellent results. It is such a delight to be able to develop the talents of this group! The Outeniqua Primary Early Act Club was launched at the beginning of 2013 and is currently in its third year. Many of the families of the kids at the Rooikruis Hospital do not have the financial means to support them while undergoing treatment. A group of learners worked very hard to turn the soil so that it could be composted and planted. Unpainted bins from the sports field were also painted in our school colours. As one of our aims is to upgrade our school environment, we thought that the usage of these bins would create a litter free school! Our learners organized eats and cool drinks for these children and Outeniqua Primary’s parents donated sandwiches that the Wikkelwurms could take home to their families. They ate cupcakes, chatted, played and the little ones were carried around. On invitation a group of Early Acters attended a meeting of the local Rotary Club where they were given a delicious meal and had to give feedback on their activities. This was done through a short powerpoint presentation and the Outeniqua Early Acters were applauded for their initiatives and hard work. Outeniqua Primary School’s chess club is enthusiastically supported by players and parents alike. We have an active group of approximately three dozen players of varying ability. SU members also have opportunities to reach out to the community through supporting and/or initiating various projects, such as. Hier word die jongmens se ideëveld en horisonne verruim en word hulle geskool in grondige denke en optrede.
