At the time it had been operating as a guest house for almost 15 years. We fell in love with the beautiful old buildings the very first time we saw them and knew that we wanted to live here. Since moving here in February 2015 we have expanded the service offering in our lovely tea garden, we upgraded the quality of our rooms and improved parts of the buildings. Our greatest pleasure thus far, has been to see how our staff has grown and taken pride in their work and in the guest house. Since late 2016 we now even boast the services of our own chef. We are situated in the secluded hamlet of Herold at the top of the Montagu pass only 30 minutes drive from either George or Oudtshoorn and a short driving distance from many of the popular attractions along Route We offer comfortable accommodation, warm hospitality and delicious food in a tranquil and beautiful rural setting. A sense of history can be felt on the picturesque grounds where the original old Post Office and Police Station buildings now form part of Over the Mountain Guest Farm. Sitting in the lush gardens filled with red and white rone can look out over surrounding hop farms. Herold is part of South Africa’s breathtaking Garden Route, but the mountains shield us from the coastal weather, while being in the mountains provides, us with much more cooler temperatures than places in the Klein Karroo just 5 kilometers away from us.
